Upholstered Headboards
A Personal Project
What began as a scrappy way to decorate my new apartment with limited funds quickly found its way into a joyous little side hustle. I have always loved interior design, and after browsing custom headboards I realized I had the tools I needed to design and build my own. I have now sold 7 headboards on Facebook Marketplace, and I still itch to come home and get my hands busy with my latest project.

A peek behind the process -
I prioritize sourcing second hand or reprocessed materials. The fabrics are from a women-run company in India that makes curtains out of fabric scraps, which I sew to the dimensions needed. After sawing the plywood and lumber to custom spec, assembly only requires wood glue, a drill and a staple gun.
Furniture nailheads are hammered around the edges for a studded effect. The headboard then modularly attaches to the wall via french cleat. It’s not exactly renter friendly, but the visual relief is worth a little elbow and sparkle grease.
