Working within a small team of 7 engineers, designers, entrepreneurs, and environmental analysts, we redefined what Zespri’s packaging would look like if we got just 40% more sustainable.

As the lead design engineer, I brought our low-fi protoypes to life through CAD, 3D printing, and a couple mockups made from recycled water bottles and nut jars.

Over the course of a semester, we consulted for Zespri’s sustainability and packaging team to find an alternate solution to clamshell packaging, which is only recycled 9% of the time. Turns out using Injection Stretch Blow Molding (ISBM) as the manufacturing process to make plastic packaging, increases the recyclability to ~49%.
